A former pastor of ours (David Seabrooke) used to talk about the masks that we wear. Not actual physical masks, but how we change our behavior to appear different than we really are for the sake of others (putting up a "front", to use the vernacular of the day). The following illustration may help:

We were at Costco we saw the Rookers (or they saw us)they asked if we could come over on Sunday we could not so we came over that evening they had a playground so we played outside most the time. Sarah painted our nails and Mary washed our feet. We had fun.
